SJK(T) Bandar Segamat moves closer to realising long-awaited sports field
A review found discrepancies in land demarcation records among several agencies, which became the main factor behind the prolonged delay in developing sports facilities at the school.

SEGAMAT - After more than four decades of waiting, residents and students of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil) (SJKT) Bandar Segamat are now one step closer to enjoying improved sports facilities following the issuance of an Initial Land Use Approval Letter for the proposed development of a school field.
Sekijang Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the approval marks significant progress in resolving the long-standing demarcation issue involving Lot 8740, which has remained unresolved since 1983 and prevented the land from being fully utilised.
According to her, a review found discrepancies in land demarcation records among several agencies, which became the main factor behind the prolonged delay in developing sports facilities at the school.
"I personally brought the relevant documents and development plans to the attention of Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek for follow-up action.
"Alhamdulillah, the school has received the Initial Land Use Permission Letter, an important milestone towards fully resolving an issue that has persisted for 43 years," she said in a statement.
Dr Zaliha noted that the prolonged delay had deprived several generations of students of access to better sports facilities despite the school’s strong reputation and achievements, particularly in hockey.
She said that once all related matters are fully settled, the school would be able to move forward with proper planning and development of the field and sports infrastructure for the benefit of both students and the surrounding community.
"More importantly, students will have a more suitable environment for physical education, hockey training and a range of co-curricular activities.
"This will create opportunities to discover more talent and allow more children from Sekijang to bring pride to the school and district at higher levels of competition," she said.
Dr Zaliha, who is also the Government Backbenchers Club chairman, reaffirmed her commitment to continue monitoring the process until the development is completed. - BERNAMA
