SHAH ALAM - The Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) and Muda have announced the formation of a new political cooperation known as the 'Progressive Bloc' to face the upcoming state elections in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.

PSM chairman Dr D Jeyakumar said the agreement includes the alignment and coordination of issues, the joint mobilisation of campaign machinery, as well as strategic planning in seat allocations.

However, candidates from both parties will contest under their respective party logos.

"This cooperation not only strengthens our campaign machinery but also prevents seat clashes among parties championing a progressive agenda.

"At this point, it has not evolved into a formal coalition, nor will it use a single logo for the elections," he told Sinar.

Earlier, PSM and Muda said in a joint statement that they had agreed to work together throughout the campaign period by offering progressive policies to voters in both states.

The statement said five key policy pillars centred on the well-being of all Malaysians, regardless of race and guided by the framework of the Federal Constitution, would be introduced.

"Among the main issues we will highlight in this state election are solutions to the rising cost of living by outlining practical measures to ease the people's economic burden, as well as creating quality jobs through better employment opportunities with improved wages and protections.

"Environmental sustainability will also be a major focus, alongside affordable housing to ensure fair access to housing that people from all walks of life can afford.

"The Progressive Bloc will also continue pursuing institutional reforms to strengthen transparent, clean and accountable governance," it said.

The statement added that the bloc remains open to discussions and collaboration with any parties or groups that share similar progressive aspirations and policies for the betterment of Johor and Negeri Sembilan.
