Nik Nazmi gives statement to JAIS over khalwat case

SHAH ALAM - Former Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad today completed having his statement recorded by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) in connection with a khalwat (close proximity) case.

Syariah lawyer Muhammad Amirul Ashraf A. Ghani said his client had appeared before JAIS to assist in completing investigations under Section 29 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995.

"We have fully cooperated with the investigation. The decision on whether to press charges rests with the Selangor Syariah Prosecution Department,” he said when met at Bangunan Sultan Idris Shah here.

The former MP arrived at the JAIS office at about 9.15am, wearing a white shirt, black blazer and face mask, before leaving the building at 1.30pm.

Meanwhile, JAIS director Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad confirmed that Nik Nazmi, 44, had appeared at the department but declined further comment.

Previously, JAIS confirmed in a statement that an arrest had been made in connection with a suspected khalwat offence involving a political leader in the Petaling district at about 6pm on Oct 15. - BERNAMA
