SHAH ALAM - The Selangor government is planning to provide free meals to approximately 70,000 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates across the state through a special initiative, Nutrisi Selangor (NutriSel) SPM 2026.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative was aimed at ensuring that all Form Five students received adequate meals throughout the examination period for core subjects, which is scheduled to take place soon.

"During the examination period, we will provide breakfast or an appropriate lunch for these students so that they can enter the examination halls without any hindrance and feel more motivated when answering the questions,” he said.

He said this after presenting food packs under the Nutrisi Selangor (NutriSel) initiative, which was also attended by state secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzil Ahmad, at Sekolah Rendah Agama Integrasi (SRAI) in Section 19 here today.

He said the special NutriSel SPM 2026 initiative was part of the wider NutriSel programme, which began last August to look after the welfare and nutritional needs of 104,640 primary and secondary school students from the B40 group, with an allocation of more than RM12.5 million.

Elaborating further, he said the programme’s allocation comprised RM7.82 million contributed by local authorities (PBTs) and RM4.73 million from the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN).

In another development, Amirudin said the state government was also distributing free bread and milk to 993,670 pupils in 962 schools across Selangor through the Mega NutriSel initiative, in collaboration with strategic partners Farm Fresh and Gardenia.

"Mega NutriSel will continue until Nov 6 or 7, ahead of the SPM examination, with all students receiving the items in a one-off distribution.

"The allocation is smaller than that for the basic NutriSel programme because we want to include all students, with the initiative covering nearly 125,000 pupils in Shah Alam alone,” he said.

Earlier, Amirudin and Ahmad Fadzil, accompanied by Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) director Datuk Shahzihan Ahmad, distributed NutriSel programme food packs to 1,321 pupils at SRAI Section 19 here, including 37 recipients of the basic NutriSel assistance.

All the nutrition initiatives are jointly implemented by UPEN, local authorities, JAIS and the Selangor Education Department. - BERNAMA
