Ginie Lim raises concern over Machap congestion as 10-minute journeys stretch into hours
The Machap Jaya state seat candidate said the growing population and increasing number of traffic lights had highlighted the need for improvements to the area's road infrastructure.

SHAH ALAM - Traffic congestion in Machap Jaya, where journeys that should take 10 to 15 minutes can reportedly stretch into several hours, has emerged as one of the infrastructure concerns raised by Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Datuk Ginie Lim Siew Lin during the Melaka state election campaign.
Ginie, who is contesting the Machap Jaya state seat, said the growing population and increasing number of traffic lights had highlighted the need for improvements to the area's road infrastructure.
Citing data from the 2020 Census, she said Machap had more than 25,000 residents, although the population may have grown further over the past five years.
She said the road infrastructure must be upgraded in line with population growth to ensure smoother daily journeys for the local community.
Ginie added that the congestion issue had been raised repeatedly during meetings and ceramah with residents, as time and energy lost on the roads continued to affect their daily lives.
"I have said this repeatedly at every meeting and talk with the people. This is an issue that needs to be taken seriously. People's time and energy are being wasted.
"Because time that has been wasted cannot be turned back," she said on Facebook today.
She also pledged to ensure that problems involving traffic lights and road infrastructure received proper attention and were thoroughly examined if she was elected as the people's representative.
Ginie said development in Machap Jaya should reflect the needs of its residents, adding that the area should not be left behind as other parts of the state progressed.
"We want Machap to move forward and progress, not merely remain on the sidelines as part of the scenery," she said.
