SHAH ALAM – Residents in Sabak Bernam have been urged to remain alert as sea levels are expected to reach up to 3.2 metres during the major high-tide phenomenon beginning today.

The Sabak Bernam District Disaster Management Committee issued the preparedness notice on Nov 3, outlining two periods of high tides expected to affect the district throughout November.

Based on predictions from the Bagan Datuk monitoring station, the first period runs from Nov 6 to 12, with high-tide levels expected to range between 3.0 and 3.2 metres.

The highest predicted level of 3.2 metres is expected on Nov 7, 8, 9 and 10, before gradually declining to 3.0 metres on Nov 12.

The second period is expected from Nov 22 to 27, with sea levels again predicted to reach 3.2 metres on Nov 23, 24, 25 and 26.

The committee advised residents to make the necessary preparations, remain aware of their surroundings and monitor changing weather conditions throughout the periods.

The notice also included daily weather forecasts, with thunderstorms expected in some areas during several afternoons, while rain is forecast in certain areas on some mornings and nights.

The predictions were based on information from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) and the National Hydrographic Centre.

However, the high-tide projections do not confirm that flooding will occur, nor do they identify specific areas at risk.

Members of the public requiring emergency assistance can contact the National Emergency Hotline at 999.
