BUKIT BERUANG - Melaka Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Adly Zahari has urged voters to support the coalition in the Nov 14 state election, pledging to prioritise clean governance, fight corruption and ensure the state's development benefits all communities.

Adly said PH's approach was founded on serving the people regardless of race or background, with their interests taking precedence over political considerations.

“Our principle has always been to serve the people regardless of their race or skin colour, as their interests must come first. Good governance must be based on responsibility, integrity and competent leadership, with the ultimate aim of delivering meaningful benefits to the people.

“This is why PH will continue to fight corruption and abuse of power, with zero tolerance for both.

“Corruption not only causes financial losses but also undermines the dignity and values of the community and the country, with its consequences potentially extending into areas such as our children's education,” he said during a talk in Bukit Beruang, Melaka, last night.

He said PH was taking the message of ‘Melaka Rumah Kita’ into the election, portraying the state as a shared home where all residents should have equal opportunities to benefit from its development and prosperity.

Adly said managing the state as a shared home required responsible, honest and competent leadership that placed public welfare at the centre of its decisions, particularly to ensure vulnerable groups were not left behind.

“Our principle is simple: if our home is dirty, we clean it; if it is crooked, we straighten it and if it needs to be built properly, we work towards creating a harmonious home,” he said.

Adly also highlighted PH's previous 22-month administration of Melaka, thanking voters for giving the coalition the opportunity to govern and pointing to 56 initiatives introduced during that period.

Among the initiatives were the Rumah Belia scheme, which offered houses priced at RM160,000, including a development in Durian Tunggal, as well as free housing and rental homes for young people at RM150 per month.

He also cited the introduction of free bus services and free health cards in 2019 as part of the coalition's efforts to improve public access to essential services.

Adly called on voters to give PH another opportunity to lead the state by supporting its candidates on polling day.

“Therefore, I call on the people of Melaka to support PH candidates on Nov 14,” he said.

The Election Commission (EC) has set Nov 14 as polling day for the 16th Melaka state election following the dissolution of the 28-seat State Legislative Assembly on Sept 23.

Nomination day was held on Oct 31, while early voting is scheduled for Nov 10. A total of 79 candidates are contesting the 28 state constituencies.

A coalition needs at least 15 seats to secure a simple majority and form the state government, while 19 seats are required for a two-thirds majority.

In the previous state election in 2021, Barisan Nasional (BN) won 21 seats, followed by PH with five and Perikatan Nasional (PN) with two.
