Previously, Ipoh District Police Chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad had said that a man feared drowned, was suspected of being involved in cable theft activities with a friend, at a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) substation at the dam.

Investigations revealed that the victim left home at 2.30pm yesterday looking for some material for a broom in the area near the river before falling in and drowning.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment of up to 40 years with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if not sentenced to death.
