SHAH ALAM - The RM1 Malaysian Electronic Payment System (MEPS) Interbank ATM withdrawal fee will be reimposed starting tomorrow (Feb 1).

Maybank, CIMB, Hong Leong Bank, Ambank, Public Bank and Bank Islam were among the banks that had announced about the reinstatement of the charge on their websites and social media platforms since, Dec 15, last year.

Based on the announcements, it is understood that customers can continue to perform cash withdrawal transactions at the ATMs of their respective banks for free.

On April 6, 2020, the government introduced the waiver on the RM1 fee, shortly after the first Movement Control Order (MCO) took place.

The decision was made to allow people to withdraw cash at the ATM under MEPS which were nearest to them without having to pay the RM1 charge.

When then Defence Minister and current Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the waiver, he stated that it will continue until the end of the MCO period.
