SHAH ALAM - If Malu Apa Bossku's catchphrase was a song, it would have won several awards, perhaps breaking records too. It is after all the most recognisable phrase since 2019.

Some people identify themselves with the slogan, there are countless YouTube channels debating on this while some MPs repeat the phrase disgustingly at almost every Parliamentary sitting, press conference, forum and talks.

Activists ask Malaysians countless times "where is your shame in supporting a convict" and fume whenever people gather around Najib to seek solace for their troubles.

The slogan has now gone into Johor polls with ex-prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's scathing attacks on Najib yesterday.

He likened "Malu Apa Bossku" to urinating in front of foreign dignitaries.

Laced with sarcasm, the 96-year-old went on to say: "We don't think it is wrong or something to be ashamed of. But think about it, one day, a foreign dignitary visits our country. The dignitary, in full uniform and medals, arrives in a line of honour. But our leader welcomes him, naked. What is there to be ashamed of?

"Our naked leader escorts the dignitary but halfway through the line starts urinating. What is there to be ashamed."

This will not be the first or the last time Mahathir would be attacking Najib on the slogan supported by some and shunned by others.

But will it make a difference to the majority of Umno supporters as Mahathir, the Pejuang chairman urges rakyat to fight corrupted leaders.

Should we brush off Pejuang as being insignificant and a party that will not win any of the 42 out of 56 state seats it is contesting?

Analysts have repeatedly said Umno is likely to dominate in the Johor polls, not because of the party's strength but because the opposition parties are weak.

They have also said Umno is likely to enter state elections as favourites and likely to win a majority.

PH, they say is suffering a trust deficit among supporters after failing to fulfil its 2018 manifesto.

As Umno has slowly been gaining strength, momentum and trust of Malays with Chinese and Indians slowly abandoning the opposition, the only way out is for Pejuang to join hands with the opposition to win Johor polls.

Or the most Pejuang or any other opposition party would do is split votes and see Umno breaking records at the birthplace of the biggest Malay party in Malaysia.
