PUTRAJAYA - Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Shah Alam and several other cities will experience the phenomenon of zero shadow day at noon today.

Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba in a statement said the phenomenon will take place after an equinox had occurred last Monday, where the sun was directly above the equator.

“During the Equinox, the whole world will experience the same length of day and night which is 12 hours of day and 12 hours night," he said.

According to him, the equinox event also marks a change of seasons, namely the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere of the earth while autumn begins in the southern hemisphere.

“This phenomenon is called the zero shadow day, the sun will be right above everyone’s head above along the equator at noon,” he said.

He said that the head and body shadow would directly be at the sole of the feet, imitating the effect that there is no shadow.

"The zero shadow day phenomena will occur at 1:19 pm in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya and 1:20 pm in Shah Alam," he said.

Among other areas where the phenomenon will occur today are Batu Caves at 1.19 pm, Bintulu (12.34 pm), Nenasi (1.12 pm), Kuala Klawang (1.18 pm).
