Zoo Negara hits all time with almost 4,000 visitors a day

SHAH ALAM - After the pandemic hit in Malaysia, Zoo Negara is now back in business with about 4,000 visitors per day since January.

Zoo Negara Deputy President Rosly@Rahmat Amat Lana said they are currently generating around RM600,000 to RM800,000 a month, a far cry when the management team had to urged people to donate to feed the animals.

"We are relieved over this positive development and tremendous support from the public after the Covid-19 pandemic. " he said at the press conference in Malaysian Association Zoological Parks and Aquaria (MAZPA) 25th Anniversary today.

Rosly said the presence of the third child of the giant panda couple Xing Xing and Liang Liang from China who was given the name Sheng Yi was also one of the main attraction for visitors.

Meanwhile Wildlife Conservative chief Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim said severe action will be against those caught for illegal hunting from July onwards under the new Wildlife Conservative Act 716 with a maximum sentence of 10 to 15 years or RM1 mil in fines .

"This is mainly to create awareness, reduce and stop illegal hunting as many wildlife animals have been affected.

He also urged the law should be tightened and enforcement must be strengthened to help protect endangered animal species such as tigers and elephants.
