KUALA NERUS - Terengganu Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) has opened five investigation papers on wholesalers and cooking oil packaging companies suspected of misusing cooking oil packs.

Its director Saharuddin Mohd Kia said the companies were tracked down through a special operation held since June 23 in Kuala Terengganu and Dungun.

"The packagers and wholesalers violated regulation 13 of the Control of Supplies Act 1974 which is the failure of maintaining stock of goods," he said after an operation at a factory here on Wednesday.

He said the operation was held on 36 wholesalers, 366 retailers and 19 SMEs in Terengganu and were carried out after prices of bottled cooking oil, chicken and eggs.

Businesses are not allowed to buy more than12 kilograms and those found guilty could be fined not more than RM1,000,000 or prison not more than three years or both while the company if guilty could be fined not more than RM2,000000.
