MELAKA - The Klebang People's Housing (PPR) project, which has been abandoned for almost four years, is undergoing rehabilitation process and it’s construction is expected to be completed in December next year.

Klebang State Assemblyman Datuk Lim Ban Hong said a new contractor had been appointed by the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) to rehabilitate the project, which initially cost RM42 million.

He said the Klebang state constituency development and coordination committee office (Japerun) would monitor the progress of the project's rehabilitation to ensure that it is carried out according to the stipulated schedule and completed within the given period.

"The construction work of PPR Klebang started in February 2016 and was supposed to be completed by the end of 2018, but work stopped after Pakatan Harapan took over Melaka in May 2018.

"The progress of the PPR Klebang project then was 90 percent completed, with the remaining construction work that was not completed only involved infrastructure and facilities in the surrounding area including the drainage system and roads," he told a press conference after visiting the PPR Klebang site here today.

He said based on the assessment by the new contractor, there were many damage to the 14-storey building, as well as the lift, as the project had been abandoned for some time.

The assessment would also take into account safety of the building, he added.

Lim said the Klebang PPR project was developed by the government to provide an opportunity, especially the B40 and the disabled, to own a house.

"I was informed that all the housing units in PPR Klebang already had buyers,” he said, adding that the project comprised two blocks of flats, involving 255 units of three-room houses and equipped with various facilities such as a community hall, kindergarten and surau. - BERNAMA
