SHAH ALAM - Over 12,000 signatures have been collected for the online petition to free Datuk Seri Najib Razak launched by Selangor BNComms through the change.org platform on Monday.

The petition was to seek for a royal pardon from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to be granted to Najib.

This was following electoral watchdog Bersih’s online petition it launched for the former prime minister to not be pardoned.

The petition claimed that under Najib’s leadership, the country’s economy was at its peak with multiple initiatives, social improvements, funds for students and the country received the highest foreign investment.

In fact, according to the petition, Najib’s leadership was favoured by the world’s top economic powers which were the United States and China.

"He has always been on good terms with neighbouring countries, took care of the relationship with the Arab leaders and at the same time still respected the country in dispute, Taiwan.

"Najib's economic policy that transferred the ownership of the people's treasures from certain tycoons to state-owned companies caused some parties to be displeased and in turn initiated a malicious political plot,” it said.

On Tuesday, the Federal Court upheld Najib’s conviction, 12-year jail sentence as well RM210 million fine for the misappropriation of RM42 million funds from SRC International Sdn Bhd.
