SHAH ALAM – A student at a madrasah here has denied allegations of abuse and sexual harassment after a family claimed that their son was abused.

This comes after claims by a former student's brother on social media that his brother was allegedly tortured by being locked up in a dark room, physically abused, mentally tortured, and sexually harassed at Madrasah Darussolihin in Jalan Kebun, here.

However, a student who wanted to be known as Mohd Firdaus said the former student has been there only for a few months and was sent by his family.

"This student had mental health and drug addiction problems. His family sent him here to help him heal spiritually. After a long recovery process, he finally returned to normal.

"This is the madrasah's policy; we will only be freed when we are totally recovered and ready in terms of mental, physical, and spiritual readiness," Firdaus told Sinar Daily.

Firdaus claimed he had never seen any violent behaviour in his three years there and most of the students were successful after recovering and leaving the place.

He was also in charge of health and treating sick or injured students.

"We treat him like any other student, and I can assure you the allegations are baseless; there has never been any mistreatment. If there was one, I would be the first to see it," he said.

Yesterday, Chairman of the State Religious Standing Committee, Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni during a press conference said the issue is now under investigation by Shah Alam police.

Zawawi, who is also a representative of the people in the area said there had been allegations that the students had not received good treatment but the investigation found that it was not true.

It is understood the madrasah is also still in the process of registering with the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) Ar-Riqab and the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) since 2017.

The delay is due to land status.
