BAGAN DATUK - Provocations and shouting matches broke out between supporters of two parties during a speaking engagement in Sungai Dulang, Hutan Melintang on Sunday evening.

The incident which took place around 6.50pm is believed to have occurred as a result of a disagreement when some supporters raised queries on the donations the party had made previously.

The source told Sinar Harian that tension arose when Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin spoke at the programme which was also attended by actor and director, Datuk Afdlin Shauki.

According to him, just as the programme is starting, about six to seven men approached the speaking area and carried out provocations by yelling abusive words and curses.

"They refused to leave when asked to do so and what is even more worrying, is that some of them were carrying machetes," he said.

The incident went viral when a 1-minute and 16-second video was uploaded on social media.

Shamsul Iskandar in his Facebook post also claimed that some of the party's supporters were carrying machetes when the commotion broke out.

"I was surprised when one of them raised what PH did during its 15 years rule in Selangor.

"In comparison with the progress in Selangor with what the same MP has done for 27 years in Bagan Datuk, it is like comparing the sky to the earth," he wrote.

The commotion however was managed by the volunteer staff who were present during the programme.

During his speech, Afdlin also had the opportunity to comment on the incident and asked that the rallying campaigns can continue in accordance with the country's democratic practices.

"Once again I hope we continue to campaign healthily with no provocations.

"We all have our own stand and opinion and we should celebrate democracy in this country," he said.

Meanwhile, Hilir Perak District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Adnan Basri said, as of 9pm this evening, no police report had been received in relation to the incident.

"No police report has been made by any party in relation to the incident that occurred in the video.

"However, both parties have been reminded to advise their supporters to no longer create any provocations," he said.
