SHAH ALAM - The Election Commission (EC) denies an allegation of the personal information data leakage involving 800,000 voters that went viral on social media on Saturday.

EC in a Facebook post said the allegation was an old issue that has been made viral again.

"EC has been working with the National Cyber Security Agency (Nacsa) to investigate the matter," it said.

According to the EC, it has taken appropriate action to ensure that no intrusion occured in its system.

"EC always ensures the security of voters' data through continuous monitoring using effective security infrastructure," it said in the statement.

On Saturday, it was reported that more than 800,000 users' data allegedly obtained from the EC's MySPR system were sold for RM9,401 on a well-known database.

Based on the report on lowyat.net website, it is understood that the database contained a selfie and a MyKad using the Know Your Customer (e-KYC) electronic system.
