SHAH ALAM - Dollars and cents play a big role when it comes to politics, says Bangi independent candidate Dr Jamal Hisham Hashim.

He revealed to Sinar Daily that money was his biggest challenge since he decided to dive head first into the 15the General Election (GE15).

The environmental health scientist said that he was somehow fortunate that he had the support of his family and friends.

“We need money to campaign but in a way, I am fortunate because I have my family supporting me.

“I was not sure whether to run but my wife told me to just do it,” he was quoted saying in the latest Politically Frank episode.

Jamal added the support from his family and friends was what pushed him to move forward into the political arena.

He said he was surprised to see the overwhelming assistance he received from friends who came out to volunteer.

“They contribute the most in terms of effort as well as money, they helped me with the campaign so I have enough,” he said.

Social media, Jamal said, was also key when campaigning as it was free of charge.

“Thank God for social media which is practically free so I make use of that.

“I just registered for Tik Tok. I was on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and I tried tweeting but nobody responded.

“Suddenly when I tweeted on running as a candidate, I got retweets so that gives me some excitement that somebody is listening to what I have to say,” he added.
