PUNCAK ALAM - The Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS) has confirmed that the fun fair in Puncak Alam is operating without approval and licence from the local authorities (PBT).

Its director Rahilah Rahmat said the organisers had submitted applications for the entertainment activity license several times but their applications were found to be incomplete.

She said the organiser should submit a license application within 45 days to the MPKS Licensing Department to get an assessment from other technical departments such as the Enforcement Department, Occupational Safety and Health Department and the police.

"However, until today there were no assessments and support received and they decided to operate without permission," she said.

She said this in a press conference after visiting the fun fair site where two women and a child were injured after falling from a ride, here, on Monday night.

A woman was reported to have sustained severe injuries while the status of the injuries sustained by the two other victims were unknown.

Rahilah said the organiser only received permission from the developer to operate on the site from Dec 2 to Jan 8, next year.

“Since the area has not been handed over to MPKS yet, it was still under the land owner (developer) and they had given the approval for the organisers to operate (the fun fair)," she said.

The offence carries a maximum fine of RM25,000 or imprisonment of up to three years, if convicted.

Rahilah said the fun fair was also ordered to close down.

It was reported that three victims had fallen from the ride known as 'Sotong Ride' while it was in motion.

Kuala Selangor district police chief Superintendent Ramli Kasa said he received information regarding the incident at 8.50pm on Monday.
