PUTRAJAYA - The police are in the process of matching the data of the victims buried in the landslide tragedy in Batang Kali, Selangor with the police reports lodged by the next of kin.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the step was to ensure the exact total number of victims who were still missing or yet to be identified.

"This is the fifth day after the tragedy happened and police are confident that the next of kin (of the victims) will come forward and inform of a family member believed to still be missing or yet to be identified (in the incident)," he said when met after attending the launch of the Home Ministry's Flood Relief Mission to the East Coast, here, on Wednesday.

He said the search and rescue (SAR) effort to find the victims in the area was continued by the Fire and Rescue Department and announced that they have found leads on the position of victims buried under the soil.

"Yesterday (Tuesday) there was a body found and it was understood that the firemen also detected several others.

"The effort to extract the victims is continued this morning," he said.

A total of 61 victims were found safe while 25 died in the landslide tragedy that happened at the campsite at 2.42am on Friday.

Eight victims were still missing.
