Warisan members will be absent from state assembly - Shafie Apdal

KOTA KINABALU - Members of the State Legislative Assembly (ADUN) from Parti Warisan (Warisan) called for a Special Committee to be formed immediately to determine the leadership of the Unity government proposed by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said that all of Warisan assemblymen fully support Anwar's proposition to form a unity government in Sabah.

However he said the assemblymen from Warisan will not be attending the Special State Legislative Assembly (DUN) session to be held today but will fully support the two Bills that will be tabled later in the meeting.

He said the absence was to ensure that a Special Committee was established immediately to determine the leadership of the Unity government as discussed with Anwar in a meeting on Monday.

"After the meeting with the Prime Minister on 9 January 2023 (Monday), myself and the Warisan assemblymen support his proposition to form a unity government to govern the state of Sabah.

"I, together with the Warisan assemblymen also fully support the Sabah Energy Commission Bill 2023 and Gas Supply Bill 2023 which will be presented in the which will be tabled in the 16th Special Meeting of the third term on 10 January 2023 in line with Parti Warisan's fight to implement the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63 ) in full," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Shafie said he was confident the bills will gain be approved at the state legislative assembly and will be passed with a simple majority.

"I am confident both of the bills will receive approval because it needs to be passed by a simple majority.

"However, our absence at the state legislative assembly session today is due to the need to establish a Special Committee unit as soon as possible to determine the leadership of the Sabah Unity Government as discussed in the meeting with the Prime Minister," he said.

Prior to that, Sabah Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, when met by reporters on Monday, informed that a special assembly meeting was held to table the two bills that will be approved in the session later.

Masidi, who is also Sabah's Local Government and Housing Minister, informed that the Special State Assembly meeting will start at 10 am on Tuesday.
