BATU CAVES - The announcement by the Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming on the legalisation of fireworks sales by April has gone down well with some members of the public interviewed on the sidelines of Thaipusam festivities here.

Trader Chtira Paarthipan agreed with the plan to legalise fireworks, as it would add colour to festivities.

“With fireworks during the festival, it would add more value to the celebration and of course will be merrier. But at the same time, parents and authorities need to play their roles as well in managing their children while using fireworks,” she said.

Komaladevi Ramasundram, 38, also agreed with the legalisation plan.

“Of course I agree because every year after 12am the fireworks are what makes the celebration of a festival. But this year, they didn’t allow us to get the fireworks. Everyone, especially children, would love to see the fireworks,” she said.
