Mukhriz had expressed his interest in working with PH, says Mahfuz

ALOR SETAR - Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir had once expressed his interest in forming a partnership with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the coming State Elections.

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) vice president Datuk Mahfuz Omar confirmed that Mukhriz's wishes were expressed in a meeting two months ago.

He said, in the meeting, the former Jerlun Member of Parliament expressed interest in discussing further on the possibility of cooperation.

"I met Mukhriz in Kuala Lumpur about two months ago, Mukhriz expressed his desire regarding the potential cooperation between Pejuang and PH Kedah," he told Sinar Harian.

Mahfuz however advised the former Kedah Menteri Besar to discuss the direction of the collaboration with PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"I informed Mukhriz, the matter needs to be decided by the PH Presidential Council. So I advised him to discuss the matter through the right channels," he said.

However, he said, it is up to the PH leadership to decide on the matter because it involves a greater cooperation.

On Sunday, PAS Central Elections Director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor confirmed that there had been a meeting between Mukhriz and Pas' top leadership recently.

However, the essence of the discussion between the two parties has not been revealed since the discussion only involved five highest PAS leaders together with Mukhriz.

In the meantime, Mahfuz who is also the Kedah PH Chairman also invited Mukhriz and Pejuang's secretary general Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah to join Amanah.

"I also suggested to Mukhriz to join Amanah so that it would be easy to give them a chance if they have the potential to contest in the next state elections.

"Until now, they have not made a decision regarding the offer," he said.

Sinar Harian have tried to contact Mukhriz regarding the same matter, but has not yet received a response.

In the last 15th General Election (GE15), Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) contested using the Pejuang logo but failed to win any seats despite placing candidates in 125 parliamentary seats.

The decision saw all the main leaders of the party including Mukhriz and his father Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad fail to defend their respective seats in the Jerlun and Langkawi Parliaments.
