Cuepacs disappointed with Budget 2023 as it fails to address rising cost of living

PETALING JAYA: Cuepacs is disappointed with Budget 2023 as it did not solve the rising cost of living issue faced by civil servants.

Its president Datuk Adnan Mat said there was no commitment by the government to review wages of civil servants.

“Wages remains an urgent matter at this point especially due to drastic hike food prices, healthcare and housing,” he said in a statement.

Adnan said salaries for civil servants has not been revised since November 2022 and it is not suitable in the current economic situation.

Adnan further touched on housing for civil servants in Budget 2023 which was announced by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim with an allocation of RM388.1 billion.

“The one member one house programme (SASaR) for military personnel must be extended to all civil servants. They are not asking for free housing but for affordable housing that is suitable for their wages.”

Cuepacs now hopes Putrajaya will pay more attention to the needs of civil servants.

Among the handouts announced for civil servants include early redemption of cash from accumulated leave of up to 50% with a maximum of 90 days and Aidilfitri special financial assistance of RM700 to all civil servants Grade 56 and below, including those on contract.
