KUBANG PASU - Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) hopes to participate in the upcoming state election, which will be held in six states, as it has been preparing for this.

Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, however, said the party is not placing high hopes as they did in the Johor state election and the general election (GE).

He said the experience in both elections served as a reminder for the party to use them as guidance for determining its goals.

"We want to participate in the state elections and have been preparing for such an occasion. However, like I said, we must reflect on our abilities; maybe we won’t aim for a big target like what happened in GE15 and the Johor state election.

"We take it as a reminder, and maybe we should make the target more achieveable, and I hope we can receive the people’s mandate," he said when met at the Pejuang Eid Open House in Jitra, here, on Saturday.

He said Pejuang was open to cooperating with any coalition to avoid flying solo in the elections.

"We feel that joining a coalition is the best approach, especially if a one-on-one scenario could be created in the elections," he said.

Mukhriz hoped that Pejuang still had a chance to work together with Perikatan Nasional (PN).

"We still place our hopes on PN to consider our application, as we saw there were PN leaders primarily from Pas who signed the Malay Proclamation.

"It gave hope that there’s an intention among PN leaders not to divide the Malay votes, and we as a Malay party have the same intention," he said.

The PN Supreme Council Meeting had previously decided to reject Pejuang’s application to join the coalition.

PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin informed the media that the decision was made in a meeting chaired by PN chief Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and attended by the supreme leadership of the PN component parties.
