KUALA LUMPUR - DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook has called on Umno Youth to let go of past conflicts and animosity and focus on moving forward.

Loke stressed that constantly dwelling on the past would not lead to any solutions.

"Every party has this hostility towards each other. If we keep bringing up old stories it will never end.

"We have formed a government for over six months, we have discussed each other's agreement and commitment. We have already moved on since the establishment of the unity government," he said.

He made these remarks while speaking to reporters after the president's policy speech at the 2023 PAU event held at the World Trade Centre (WTC) on Friday.

Umno Youth chief Muhamad Akmal Saleh on Thursday had demanded an apology from DAP and the withdrawal of all accusations against Umno, aiming to address doubts among Umno members regarding DAP's sincerity in fostering friendship.

Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said DAP's demand for an apology against Umno should not be an issue brought up again.

To this, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stated that the demand for an apology should not be rehashed as it had already been discussed multiple times during the formation of the unity government.

In a related matter, Anthony said that the unity government involving DAP and Umno had been functioning well since its establishment.

He explained that no issues had arisen so far regarding the compatibility of the parties in the unity government.

"We need to take steps forward. What matters now is showing our cooperation. Political hostility ended with the establishment of the unity government.

"Our focus should be on the challenges ahead, such as state elections, economic challenges, and national development," he added.
