SEREMBAN - Police have crippled a gang known as ‘Geng Casa’ that has been actively breaking into terrace houses in Negeri Sembilan causing losses of over RM500,000 with the arrest of eight suspects.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said all the suspects aged between 23 and 36 were arrested in several raids in the state and in Selangor between July 1 and 8.

"The police received several reports of house break-ins believed to have been carried out by a group of men in four districts across the state and said to have been active since early 2023.

"Following that, a special operation called Op Casa was launched by the Negeri Sembilan Criminal Investigation Department since early last month and eight suspects have been detained," he said in a press conference at the Negeri Sembilan Police Contingent Headquarters, today.

He said the suspects' modus operandi was to aim for terrace houses that were easy to break into at night or early in the morning by climbing up the gate.

In fact, he said the group even acted aggressively against the victims with each member using a machete and most of the victims would be tied up.

"They were dressed in dark clothes, armed with sharp weapons, wearing gloves and masks to avoid being recognised by the victims.

"Further investigation also found that five of the suspects have criminal records involving robbery, theft, mischief, causing hurt, criminal intimidation and rioting using sharp weapons," he said.

Apart from that, he said the police also confiscated various items including eight mobile phones, a steel safe believed to be part of a previous case in Kuala Pilah, two burnt vehicle frames, two vehicles and items from the robbery and break-in tools.

"With the arrest of the suspects, the police managed to solve 14 cases committed by the same group with 10 reported in this state, three in Selangor and one in Perak involving losses amounting to RM550,000.

"All those arrested were remanded for five days from July 7. The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code," he said.
