MELAKA - The Melaka government plans to bring back artefacts or manuscripts related to the history of the Malay Sultanate of Melaka, especially involving Hang Tuah, discovered abroad.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said that based on the reports he received, these were discovered by researchers or historians in 14 countries, including Vatican City, Italy; India, Japan and Turkiye.

He said the artefacts and manuscripts will be one of the main attractions in conjunction with the Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM 2024) to showcase the greatness of Melaka and Hang Tuah.

"The state government is trying to bring home artefacts and manuscripts or copies of them and we are also arranging a budget to trace this history for the public.

"We have also set up a special committee comprising researchers or historians who are among the state government's references regarding the lineage or history of Melaka’s existence,” he told reporters here today.

He said this after officiating the appreciation ceremony for outstanding students of the Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) examination and the Melaka Government Huffaz students year 2022 here today.

Earlier, Ab Rauf said the state government allocated RM84,600 in the form of the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) worth between RM400 and RM1,000 per person to 188 excellent STPM and Huffaz students in the state last year.

He said out of that number, 44 excellent STPM students received SSPN worth RM600 each, including national-level STPM outstanding student Gee Wee Nei who also received an additional SSPN worth RM1,000.

"The donation is a sign of the state government’s appreciation, through the Malacca Education Trust Fund, for the hardworking students who obtained excellent results,” he said. -Bernama
