LGBT gathering: Eight suspected Ahmadi followers detained, say cops

KUALA LUMPUR - Police detained eight individuals suspected of being part of a gathering linked to Ahmadi teachings allegedly associated with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) elements.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zin said they were detained in front of a shopping mall in the capital city last Saturday.

"The suspects, consisting of local men aged 18 to 56 years old were arrested due to their involvement in the gathering," Shuhaily told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) on Monday.

This come​ after a ​​​​ viral video of a group of individuals allegedly participating in the LGBT-themed gathering in front of a shopping centre here last Sunday.

Investigations revealed that the individuals involved had cards with LGBT elements and some materials related to the Ahmadi Religion and are currently under remand for a day to facilitate further investigations.

"One of the suspects was arrested for distributing brochures on Ahmadi Religion at a mosque in Putrajaya two weeks ago," said Shuhaily.

Shuhally said the case is being probed under Section 186 of the Penal Code for hindering police tasks, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act and Section 9 of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012.
