MARANG - Pas has encouraged a culture of advising and counselling, including allowing citizens to criticise the government to ensure a check-and-balance system.

Its president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said this when asked to comment on the issue of Terengganu having no opposition in the state assembly for this term.

"Members of the state assembly can advise the government. We will promote the culture of advising, including citizens critiquing the government.

"Everyone can criticise the government, including those within the government itself. Citizens can also express their opinions through official channels," he told reporters after the announcement ceremony of the state polls results by Terengganu Pas at Dewan Tok Guru, Masjid Rusila, here, last night.

Yesterday, Perikatan Nasional (PN), consisting of Pas, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) remained in the state government in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.

For the first time, Terengganu witnessed a clean sweep of 32 seats by PN, contesting under the Pas logo, thereby resulting in no opposition in the state assembly.

PN also won significantly in Kelantan by obtaining 43 out of 45 seats and the coalition won 33 out of 36 seats in Kedah.

Further elaborating, Abdul Hadi said this could be implemented even though Terengganu has no opposition to the state assembly.

"We, as Muslims, believe that Allah ordains governments. Human-administered governments have imperfections.

"These imperfections are managed collectively by the leadership, not just the Menteri Besar alone, but also involving the Executive Council and representatives of the people.

"Both of these function through the government's open attitude towards criticisms from all sides," he explained.
