Screen grab of the peeping Tom.
The incident, captured by closed-circuit television (CCTV) at the station, went viral on social media, with a footage depicting the 32-year-old victim entering the restroom while her husband waited in their car.
The suspect, arriving on a motorcycle, is then seen entering the restroom on the CCTV footage before allegedly committing the act.
Moments later, the suspect is seen rushing towards his motorcycle in an attempt to flee, with the woman shouting at him.
The husband of the woman and members of the public at the gas station managed to apprehend the suspect before the man panicked and pulled out his mobile phone, deleting the recorded footage.
Seri Alam District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the video, lasting for 1 minute and 15 seconds, went viral on the Facebook account "inforoadblock".
He said the video on Facebook was uploaded, claiming that a sex-crazed man recorded a woman urinating in a restroom.
"The incident occurred at 8.30am on Aug 12. The police arrested a 19-year-old local man at the scene," he said in a statement, today.
The case is being investigated under Section 377D of the Penal Code, and the accused was charged in the Magistrate's Court here on Sunday.
He said the suspect was fined RM5,000. He reminded the public not to engage in actions that violate societal norms and laws.
