KUALA LUMPUR - The Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) seized 32 motorcycles in a special operation yesterday.

The operation, which started at 8am, issued 583 summonses for various offenses, including registration number not conforming to specification, no driving license, and various technical offenses.

Of the 3,778 motorcycles inspected, 32 were confiscated for not having a competent driver's license (CDL) and an expired motor vehicle license (LKM), other than tricycles used by foreigners.

City JPJ Director Mohd Zaki Ismail said the seizures were made under the Road Transport Act 1987.

"The enforcement strategy is focused on implementing the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and the Rules under it, with the main focus on motorcycle operators to monitor, detect, and take action against the behavior of motorcycle operators or owners who fail to comply with the rules," he told Sinar.

The operation was carried out to raise awareness among motorcycle riders and pillion riders of the importance of ensuring safety on the road.

"Obey the law to reduce the rate of road accidents," said Mohd Zaki added.
