SHAH ALAM - Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) will hold its National Trust Committee election for the 2023-2026 session in the Klang Valley in December, together with the 2023 Amanah National Convention.

Amanah Communications Director Khalid Abdul Samad said that the election system for each of the party's main positions, including the president, deputy president, and three vice-president seats, is open to the 27 National Committee Members (AJK) who will be elected through party representative votes at the area level.

He said that, as a result, the delegates may agree to give a new face to the institution of the President.

Khalid explained that the method of selecting the Amanah leadership committee is unique because the party's constitution stipulates that 27 National Committees will choose the process of determining key positions for the national level and 17 Area Committees for the area level.

"Therefore, if any leader wants to grab any key position in the party, they must first be selected as one of the 27 National Committee members, including the incumbent Amanah President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu himself.

"The selection of representatives is not based on who is eligible to hold the number one or two but rather they choose to form a work team.

"Even if there is a candidate who gets the highest number of votes from the delegates, that individual will not necessarily be appointed as president. Everything depends on the will of the representative.

"The same leadership selection method is also applied to elect the Amanah leaders in states and party wings since we want to form a united leadership and not create certain camps that risk dividing the party," he said.

Khalid was responding to the question whether Amanah will hold the party's election this year after it was postponed for 18 months through the permission of the Registration of Societies Department (RoS) last year.

The postponement was to allow the party to prepare to concentrate efforts to face the 15th General Election (GE15).

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Amanah Johor Aminolhuda Hassan agreed with Khalid's view that the party's election whether at the branch, regional, and national level is familial and full of brotherhood.

He said that all the 27 National Committees that will be elected from the area representatives aim to create a team that can work together well to administer the party.

"Because of that, there are no challenging issues that end up creating bad perceptions among party members, instead the new leadership team that will be formed can continue to focus on empowering efforts to face the next election," he said.

Amanah is currently led by Mohamad Sabu as president, while the position of deputy president is vacant following the death of its incumbent, Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub last July.

Three vice president positions are filled by Adly Zahari, Datuk Mahfuz Omar, and Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Mohd Yusof.
