Australia and Malaysia have a long-standing friendship built on strong bilateral cooperation but beyond that, there is a shared love for quality furnishings.

One of Australia’s iconic retail brand Harvey Norman can easily found across shopping malls in Malaysia.

The Australian retailer which just celebrated 20 years, weathered the Covid-19 pandemic storm and proved that even in the transformative landscape of the retail industry, they are able to thrive.

With Malaysians embracing the retail omni-channel shopping experience, this has paved the way for Harvey Norman to continue expand its business and now they are aiming to expand to 80 stores in Malaysia by the end of 2028.

At a luncheon to commemorate the two decades held at the official residence of the Australian High Commissioner, its acting High Commissioner Simon Fellows said Australia is proud of its strong business links with Malaysia and innovative approaches to retailing.

“Malaysian franchises can also be found in Australia, and we continue to see business from Malaysia investing in our own economy,” he said.

Meanwhile, Harvey Norman Asia managing director Kenneth Aruldoss said: “The ongoing expansion will not only improve the Malaysian economy through their investment in the country but will also pave the way for job creation, while contributing to the nation’s revenue, leading to heightened economic prosperity.”

Recently, Harvey Norman marked its first entry into Sabah with an outlet at the Suria Sabah Superstore.
