KLANG- Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) rejects a culture that can divide the party among them forming a team that supports any leader.

Its Communications Director Khalid Abdul Samad said Amanah never enabled its members and representatives to form 'team' A or B until the party split.

"The Amanah’s leadership (was chosen) on the basis of shura (consensus), 27 were chosen. Those 27 will sit down to discuss, negotiate well, choose the president, deputy, vice presidents and so on.

"We changed the constitution, we don't follow the Pas, Umno constitution. We don't want teams A and B, we want shura, but it seems that some of our members tend to choose teams A and B which contradicts the spirit of the establishment of Amanah," he said during the winding up session of the 2023 Amanah National Convention at a hotel here on Sunday.

According to the Amanah party constitution, the top five positions including the president were determined by consensus by the 27 top leaders who would be elected by the delegates, and a person can only be president for three consecutive terms.

In the meantime, the election for the 2023-2026 term saw 124 candidates submit nomination forms, including the party's President Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, two deputy-presidents, namely Senator Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari as well as the Amanah Strategy Director Datuk Seri Dr. Zulkefly Ahmad.

Therefore, Khalid asked members and delegates to leave it to the 27 top leaders of the party to make the decision to choose the top leaderships in this election.

"We leave it to their wisdom, let them discuss, we hope we reject the culture that can divide us all," he said.
