Lorry driver who punched RTD officer had been charged

SHAH ALAM - A video has been circulating where a member of Road Transport Department (RTD) was injured after being punched by a lorry driver.

The incident was believed to have happened in November last year after the officer along with another RTD officer attempted to stop the lorry on the road.

It is understood that the incident took place in the northern region, based on the dialect used and information shared on social media.

The one-minute-twenty-three seconds video saw RTD officers inside the vehicle, trailing the lorry with one of them could be seen using hand signals and sounding the siren, signalling the for the lorry driver to stop.

Shortly, the lorry driver stopped the vehicle in a parking area.

The driver and front passenger went out of the lorry and immediately began verbally abusing the officers.

To make things worse, one of the men proceeded to punch the officer recording the incident.

In regards to the incident, Kedah JPJ director Aman Shah Hashim said the 24-year-old man was already sentenced to one day in jail and fined RM4,000 by the Magistrate's Court in Jitra in Nov, last year.

Aman Shah said the man was arrested and charged under Section 353 of the Penal Code. The court, on Nov 27, sentenced him to one day in prison and fined him RM4,000.

"The investigation found that the video recording took place on Nov 22, around 4.04 pm, on Jalan Tasik Darul Aman, Jitra.

“During that time, on-duty officers were conducting enforcement rounds and identified a vehicle being driven suspiciously.

"Initial inspection found three offences, namely an expired Motor Vehicle Licence, no insurance coverage and an expired Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom) certificate," he said in a statement today.
