IPOH - The Horseshoe Cake which originated in Brunei has become a sensation in Malaysia and is 'hunted' by its fans since it went viral a few months ago.

The cake, which has a soft texture, is round and when sliced, the shape looks like a horseshoe, with the filling, which can be of various flavours in the centre.

A food entrepreneur, who specialises in making desserts, Nurul Rohaida Salleh, 39, said she is having her hands full meeting orders from her customers after the cake went viral on social media recently.

The Evas Food Station operator said that she can sell up to 1,500 Horseshoe cakes of various fillings such as nutella, matcha crunchy, kinder bueno and biscoff daily.

"Before not many types of flavours were used for the filling, but now the cake is in high demand because there are various types of fillings," she said when met at her shop in Meru Raya here, recently.

Nurul Rohaida said the horseshoe cakes at her shop are supplied by eight vendors, including including from Penang, Johor, Melaka and Selangor.

The cakes are of various sizes and are priced at RM6 each or RM10 for two small-size ones, RM15 each for medium size and RM25 to RM35 each for the large size.

Based on current demand, the sale of the cakes can reach more than RM30,000 a month, she said.

Meanwhile, one of her horseshoe cake vendors, Rosnani Muhamad, 47, who is the owner of Anizz Cookies in Penang, said her factory produces up to 2,000 small-sized horseshoe cakes every day, with half of them sent to Evas Food Station.

"The remaining 1,000 cakes are sent to agents in other places including Sungai Petani and Alor Setar, Kedah.

"We've been producing this horseshoe cake on the side for a long time. Only now, it is in high demand after it went viral recently.

"Before we only made hundreds of horseshoe cakes daily, now we have to increase it to thousands,” she said, adding that she is assisted by 13 workers.

The horseshoe cakes from Anizz Cookies come with five types of filling in a day, she said, adding that what is special about the horseshoe cakes from Anizz Cookies is that they use special ovalette to ensure the cakes are soft and spongy.

"For the filling, we use nestum to produce a 'crunchy' taste with dark chocolate cream, matcha and quality white chocolate," she said. - BERNAMA
