SHAH ALAM - The Quran and Sunnah, the teachings and practices of Prophet Muhammad SAW, offer profound guidance on mental health, highlighting the importance of maintaining psychological well-being.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said Islam advocates for a comprehensive approach to life, encompassing not only material aspects but also prioritising spirituality, emotional well-being and considerations of the afterlife.

"Central to Islamic teachings is the notion of striking a balance between worldly affairs (dunya) and spiritual matters (akhirah), acknowledging the significance of both realms.

"The Quran and Sunnah offer guidance on mental health, emphasising the importance of maintaining psychological well-being," he said this during an interview at the Karangkraf Complex, here, today.

In accordance with these principles, Zulkifli said the ministry has introduced initiatives such as Islamic counselling and psycho-spiritual therapy to address mental health concerns within an Islamic context.

"Additionally, Islam encourages individuals to cultivate a strong spiritual bond with Allah, fostering connections both vertically, in their relationship with the Divine and horizontally, in their interactions with fellow human beings.

"This holistic approach highlights the depth and richness of Islamic principles, offering a comprehensive framework for navigating life's complexities while nurturing one's spiritual and emotional welfare," he added.
