KOTA BHARU - The Kelantan State Health Department (JKNK) has urged parents to monitor their children's movements during the Aidilfitri celebration to avoid heat stroke incidents throughout the festive season.

This comes after several districts in the state, namely Gua Musang, recorded level two heat readings, while level one involved Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah and Machang.

Its director Datuk Dr Zaini Husin said many activities, especially involving children were expected to occur during the festive season.

"Although, so far, we have not received any new reports of heat stroke cases, preventive measures need to be taken.

"We do not want these cases to recur throughout the festive season," he told reporters.

He said parents needed to be prepared and be aware if symptoms such as nausea, fever, dizziness, fatigue and diarrhoea occurred in children.

He said the department has constantly reminded the public through campaigns on social media, health clinics and other platforms on the matter.

Dr Zaini said the highest temperature recorded in the state was 39 degrees Celsius.

He also advised that besides children, the elderly and at-risk groups should avoid exposure to hot weather.

It was previously reported that the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) informed of a heat stroke-related death case.

In a statement, Nadma said the incident occurred on April 1 involving a three-year-old child in Kelantan.
