SHAH ALAM - Malaysians should try to understand the international political situation including the ‘game’ behind the scenes to make the right decision or judgment on the issue of the Iran-Israel conflict.

Nusantara Academy of Strategic Research (NASR) Senior Fellow Professor Dr Azmi Hassan said in some matters involving sensitive issues, there ertr decisions made that the leaders of the country should take into account greater interests.

He said that the country's leaders faced difficulties or were handcuffed on certain issues, but Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim showed courage when he openly expressed support for Palestine twice, even though the Arab countries did not dare to do so.

“Our leader has expressed open support for Iran. Even though we do not feel it, Anwar is slowly 'handcuffed' not to show too much support for Iran.

"Support to Palestinians is different as Iran is considered as a terrorist by the international community to whom most countries do not want to be close, including the Arab countries. So, what is going on behind the veil is very important.

"Try to name an Arab leader who dares to communicate directly with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and exhibit it publicly. None, only Anwar was brave and did it not only once," he said.

He said this as a panellist of the Wacana series 436 entitled 'The Iran-Israel Conflict: Impact on Malaysia' on Tuesday.

The programme hosted by Ismail Adnan also featured, Taylor’s University Centre for Legal Studies and Governance Professor and international political observer Nasaie Ismail as a panellist

Azmi added that the fundamental issue that needed to be understood about Iranian drone and missile attacks on Israel was not about killing people or destroying the Zionist regime.

Instead, he said, it was a signal that Iran was capable of dealing with Israel itself and not using other aids like Hamas.

"Iran's actions are actually for self-defence because Israel has attacked its embassy in Damascus, Syria; they even have rights under Article 41 of the United Nations Charter. (PBB).

"In fact, when Iran uses this expression of self-defence, they are mocking Israel because this Zionist regime often uses this as an excuse to attack Palestine," he said.
