SHAH ALAM - The decision of MCA and MIC not to be involved in Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) by-election campaign activities if the candidate is not from BN are due to several factors including that both parties do not have many seats in the Unity Government.

Former Umno information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan believed that only Pakatan Harapan (PH), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Umno were seen to be cooperating with the government but not Barisan Nasional (BN).

He claimed that MIC and MCA did not have strength, but tried to be a functioning party in government.

"We look at Wee Ka Siong for example, he is now building an image to become a critic from within the government.

"That is a function but in terms of cooperation in politics at the leadership level, it seems that MIC and MCA are very marginalised or maybe they don't want to be seen pandering to be accepted by their friends in the government," he said.

He said this through the Keluar Sekejap Podcast program which was conducted with the former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin on Monday on the YouTube channel.

The MCA Political Development Committee on Friday was reported to have decided not to get involved in any Kuala Kubu Baharu State Assembly by-election campaign activities if the candidate was not from BN.

MIC previously also made the same decision for similar reasons.

Shahril added that one day MIC and MCA would have to make a decision regarding their position in the government.

"What do they really want to do, still want to be in BN, be treated like this or do something more radical, that is up to you," he said.

Through the Keluar Sekejap Podcast, they also commented on the actions of the Local Government Development Ministry (KPKT) to allocate RM5.21 million to the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council (MPHS) to improve public infrastructure under its management, for the well-being of the people around Hulu Selangor.

Shahril Sufian said the matter would not affect the voters in the area concerned.

"Voters will not be consumed or vote just because there is a certain project or announcement except those who are really involved in the matter," he said.
