HULU SELANGOR - The Indian community in Kuala Kubu Baharu is now more open about expressing their intention to support the Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the upcoming by-election this Saturday.

PN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said that the observation was based on the feedback and surveys conducted by the leaders and the coalition's machinery throughout the campaign in the area.

“They (the Indian community) are now brave enough to declare their support for anyone and are bold in criticising all government policies.

“In the past, when we went from house to house, they remained somewhat silent and did not want to discuss issues or government policies.

“This provides an opportunity for our candidate (Khairul Azhari Saut) when seeing the sincerity of the voters who not only engage in discussions but also inform us of their issues," he said after the Majlis Ramah Mesra event with the Indian community in Batang Kali on Sunday night.

Also present were Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar who is also Pas Deputy President and the Malaysian Indian People Party (MIPP) president S P Punithan.

Meanwhile, Hamzah said the presence of the new party based on the Indian community, MIPP, further strengthened their support for PN.

He added that under Punithan's leadership, the party provides space and opportunities for PN to listen to the grievances and cries of the Indian community, thereby securing their votes.

"I am grateful because MIPP has sparked increased interest among the Indian community in PN," he said.
