Executive spends RM1,000 a month to write hotel reviews
Almost every weekend, he checks into a hotel, and to date, he has logged 234 stays at 169 hotels in Malaysia, mostly those located in the Klang Valley, since embarking on this "hobby” in 2020.

KUALA LUMPUR - Burhanuddin Abdul Jalil, a senior executive at a financial firm, spends around RM1,000 from his salary each month to stay at different hotels and write reviews of his experiences on his website.
Almost every weekend, he checks into a hotel, and to date, he has logged 234 stays at 169 hotels in Malaysia, mostly those located in the Klang Valley, since embarking on this "hobby” in 2020.
"Before 2020, my hobby was photography and my favourite subject was landscapes. I would capture stunning views from tall buildings or natural settings across various locations, including in Indonesia.
"But when travel restrictions were imposed during the Covid-19 pandemic, I took the opportunity to book hotels around the capital city as accommodation was still allowed to operate under certain standard operating procedures at that time,” Burhanuddin, 55, told Bernama.
What began as a way to cure boredom during the pandemic has now turned into an "addiction” and a source of joy, prompting him to continue the activity to this day.
"My friends often ask for recommendations on good hotels to stay at, so I decided to start writing reviews for every hotel I visit. Since I’m also good at photography, it felt like a natural fit,” he said.
Burhanuddin writes detailed reviews of hotels ranging from three-star to five-star establishments, covering aspects such as location, room layout, facilities and staff service.
"I write my reviews in the form of short essays using simple, easily understood Bahasa Melayu. Alhamdulillah, I’ve received a lot of positive feedback and my reviews have helped others make informed decisions about choosing hotels that suit their needs,” he said.
He shares his observations on hotel facilities through his website https://hanuds.wixsite.com/hanudds and contributes articles to the ‘Hotel Review Malaysia’ Facebook page.
Based on his experience, Burhanuddin noted that hotel prices can vary greatly, sometimes being very affordable and other times skyrocketing. He suggested using various online hotel booking apps to compare prices, adding that bookings made two or three months in advance often result in significant savings.
"For anyone looking to plan a trip, early bookings are the best ways to secure a good deal,” he said. - BERNAMA
