Pahang's commitment to Orang Asli community: Bridging the gap with inclusive initiatives
Various initiatives introduced for the benefit of the people also extend to the seven ethnic groups of Orang Asli in the state.

SHAH ALAM – The Pahang state government has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the welfare of the Orang Asli community, which constitutes approximately 95,000 of its population.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail emphasised that various initiatives introduced for the benefit of the people also extend to the seven ethnic groups of Orang Asli in the state.
“For first-time marriages, we provide RM300. We have also offered free housing, with 120 homes worth RM82,000 each allocated this year.
“Free laptops and many other forms of assistance have been made available to support the economic and social development of the Orang Asli,” Wan Rosdy said during a Town Hall programme held at Dewan Karangkraf on Friday.
He further highlighted efforts to ensure that Orang Asli youths with qualifying academic results could pursue higher education.
“We are committed to helping them enrol in public universities, private institutions or teacher training institutes to secure a brighter future,” he added.
The establishment of the Pahang Orang Asli Corporation (ORACO) serves as a central body to oversee assistance programmes tailored to their socio-economic needs.
Additionally, the Orang Asli Development Department (JAKOA) plays an integral role in coordinating these efforts, with oversight from a dedicated state executive councillor and specialised officers.
Wan Rosdy also noted that the Orang Asli community has been represented in significant leadership roles within the state.
Past appointments have included an Orang Asli senator, the director-general of JAKOA, and even a member of parliament.
“This collective approach ensures the Orang Asli community is well-supported and given opportunities to thrive,” he added.
In tackling food security challenges, Pahang has introduced initiatives such as mini Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro Tourism Exhibitions (MAHA), following the success of MAHA 2024.
Wan Rosdy also highlighted the state’s dedication to cattle farming, noting the presence of wagyu beef production in Lipis and Rompin as part of these efforts.

The Town Hall session, organised by Sinar Harian and hosted by actor and presenter Fikry Ibrahim, provided an opportunity for state leaders to engage directly with the public.
Designed to bridge the gap between policymakers and citizens, the event facilitated open discussions on pressing issues and highlighted ongoing efforts to address community needs.
