SHAH ALAM – Pahang Barisan Nasional (BN) is committed to rebuilding its stronghold with an enhanced focus on community welfare and governance, as it prepares for the 16th General Election (GE16).

The Pahang state government, under the leadership of Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, was confident that it could secure a two-thirds majority, prioritising the well-being of the people and addressing crucial issues to strengthen its position.

Wan Rosdy, who is also Umno vice-president, expressed a firm commitment to improving state finances and welfare programmes, stressing that progress must be measured by results that directly benefit the people.

He further acknowledged that, while performance was a key component of governance, sentiments and perceptions played an equally significant role in political success.

"In politics, we cannot ignore public perception. It’s not just about performance; it’s about how we are perceived by the people. Though the political landscape is dynamic, the numbers speak for themselves.

"We (Pahang) have demonstrated our ability to reduce the state’s debt from 3.3 billion to 950 million and generated increased revenue.

“The Pahang Prihatin programme, which assisted various communities, from newborns to senior citizens, is proof that our efforts have reached the people,” he said at a Town Hall session at the Karangkraf Hall here on Friday.

Looking back on the previous election, Wan Rosdy shared the frustrations felt by his team. Despite significant progress in governance, the results of GE15 were not favourable to BN.

"We gave our all, but it was clear that performance alone doesn’t always translate into victory. Sentiment and perception often override results and that’s a lesson we’ve learned," he added.

However, he remained optimistic that with a continued focus on tangible achievements, the party would overcome any challenges posed by negative sentiments.

His resolve remained strong, as he believed that by continuing to deliver real improvements for the state, BN Pahang would regain the trust of voters.

A significant part of their strategy moving forward is to directly engage with the public, particularly university students and younger voters who may not fully understand the positive changes that have taken place under BN’s leadership.

Wan Rosdy pointed out that misperceptions and misrepresentations could hinder effective political discourse. As the 16th General Election approaches, Wan Rosdy’s focus remains clear.

"It’s no longer just about increasing state revenue; it’s about protecting our rights, defending our reputation and continuing to serve the people," he asserted.

While remaining cautious, he expressed confidence in the 1.15 million voters in Pahang.

"I believe the people of Pahang will recognise the value of our efforts and show their support once again."

He said the new focus is on strengthening governance, ensuring that the people’s needs are met, and tackling challenges head-on in preparation for a successful GE16.
