KUALA LUMPUR – Specialty produce, seafood and gourmet products importer and distributor Euro-Atlantic Sdn Bhd has introduced a special charity initiative to support Palestinians living in Malaysia.

Supported by Malaysian retailers, the campaign focused on high-quality Medjool dates from Jéricho, Palestine known as the "Diamond of Dates" for their large size and rich caramel flavour.

These dates, known as "Al-Talia", which translates to "a dew from heaven" were being sold in conjunction with the upcoming month of Ramadan.

This initiative aimed to provide financial aid to Palestinian refugees and students in Malaysia, many of whom faced economic hardship.

As part of this effort, Euro-Atlantic Group Managing Director Ebby Loo presented a cheque worth RM50,000 to SSEAYP Family Alumni Malaysia (SFAM) chairman Nor Azreen Jamaluddin.

SFAM, a non-profit organisation recognised by the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Malaysia, ensured that these funds were being distributed responsibly to those in need within the Palestinian community.

The handover ceremony was also attended by Cultural Officer at the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Malaysia Raed Alzawbi.

Malaysia has consistently shown strong support for the Palestinian cause, offering humanitarian aid to both Palestinians in Gaza and those residing in Malaysia.

Recently, the Malaysian government agreed to cover tuition fees for Palestinian students at public universities, although many still required financial assistance for their daily expenses.

In August last year, a group of Palestinians arrived in Malaysia, as part of a joint initiative between the Egyptian and Malaysian governments to receive medical treatment for injuries sustained in attacks by the Israeli forces in Gaza.

Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin also announced plans for a Malaysian Humanitarian Hub in Egypt, reinforcing the country's commitment to providing aid.

Euro-Atlantic’s "Aid Palestine with Dates" initiative is a small yet significant step towards supporting the Palestinian community in Malaysia.
