A devoted wife, mother and entrepreneurial pillar
SHAH ALAM – Malaysia was recently shaken by the tragic passing of Akiko Okumura, the beloved wife of entrepreneur and social media influencer Ridzuan Ridzokumura.
Her sudden death on Friday sent waves of sorrow through her family, especially her husband and their 13-year-old son, Sky Taizo Okumura.
As those closest to her mourn her loss, many are remembering the remarkable woman she was.
Here’s a closer look at Akiko’s life, her unwavering devotion to her family, and the legacy she leaves behind.
A Life Built on Love and Resilience
Akiko, originally from Japan, married Ridzuan Ridzokumura, also known as Abdul Ridzuan Abdul Mutalib, in 2009.
Together, they built a life centred on love, resilience and entrepreneurial success.
In 2010, they co-founded The House of Ridz Okumura Sdn Bhd, contributing significantly to the growth of their hair care business.
Her unwavering support played a vital role in Ridzuan’s ventures, making her a pillar of strength in both their personal and professional lives.
A Devoted Wife and Mother
In a heartfelt TikTok live stream, Ridzuan described his wife as selfless and devoted, giving herself entirely to their family.
“For 16 years, she had no friends—only her mother. She left everything behind and gave 100 per cent of herself to me and our son,” he shared, reflecting on their journey together.
Their son, Sky, was deeply cherished by Akiko. Since her passing, Sky has been struggling with immense grief, often seen crying daily.
Their bond was evident in the countless heartwarming moments they shared on social media, showcasing a family filled with love and unity.
Akiko was particularly known for preparing sahur meals for her son during Ramadan, a tradition that resonated deeply with her followers online.
A Woman of Strength and Sacrifice
Ridzuan's niece, actress Zarina Zainuddin, who attended Akiko’s funeral, spoke highly of her character. According to Zarina, Akiko left behind a wealthy background in Japan to build a life with Ridzuan in Malaysia.
“She was an incredibly kind person. She left behind her affluent family to be with my uncle. Not only was she a devoted wife, but she also adored and doted on her only son,” she told a local portal.
Zarina also recounted a significant moment in Akiko’s life—her conversion to Islam.
On October 10 2008, Akiko embraced Islam at the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (Jakim), with Zarina witnessing the event.
Despite facing challenges, Akiko remained steadfast in her love and commitment to Ridzuan.
Her sacrifices were acknowledged by Ridzuan, who reportedly gave her RM30,000 monthly as a token of appreciation for her unwavering support throughout their marriage.
Tragic Passing and Police Investigation
Akiko’s sudden passing on Feb 28, just a day after her son's birthday, was initially reported as unknown.
Authorities later confirmed that she had fallen from the fourth floor of a condominium in SS16, Subang Jaya.
Subang Jaya district police chief, assistant commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat revealed that a police patrol team responded to an emergency call via MERS 999 and found Akiko lying face down on the ground.
Her husband, Ridzuan, has since been assisting authorities with the investigation.
The police have ruled out foul play, classifying the case as a sudden death report (SDR).
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussien Omar Khan confirmed that investigations found no criminal elements. He also urged the public to refrain from making baseless speculations.
“The Japanese embassy and the victim’s family have been notified, and we are conducting a thorough investigation,” he added.
A Legacy of Love
Akiko was laid to rest at the USJ22 Islamic Cemetery in Subang Jaya on Saturday morning.
Her passing has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of her husband and son, as well as in the hearts of those who admired her.
Whether through her unwavering support for Ridzuan’s business, her dedication as a mother or the warmth she extended to those around her, Akiko’s legacy will be remembered as one of love, sacrifice and devotion
