High early voter turnout in Ayer Kuning by-election, 22.8 per cent cast ballots by 9am

BIDOR - Early voting for the Ayer Kuning by-election began today, with a strong voter turnout reported in the initial hours.

By 9am, 22.8 per cent of registered early voters had cast their ballots, signalling keen participation in this crucial electoral contest.

Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun shared updates on the process, highlighting the smooth conduct and high expectations for overall turnout.

"We anticipate more than 90 per cent of registered voters will fulfill their responsibilities," he said at a press briefing at Dewan Rekreasi APR Transit, 3rd Battalion of the General Operations Force (PGA) Bidor.

A total of 500 early voters were registered for today’s polling, comprising 476 personnel from the 3rd Battalion of the General Operations Force (PGA) in Bidor and 24 policemen stationed at the Tapah District Police Headquarters (IPD).

"At the Tapah IPD, all 24 voters have already completed their responsibilities, with the process expected to conclude at 10am," Ramlan said.

While the process has largely been smooth, Ramlan acknowledged 27 reports related to misconduct during the by-election campaign, with four cases lodged with the police.

"These are minor issues and have been addressed by both the EC and the authorities," he added.

The Ayer Kuning by-election, set for this Saturday, April 26, was called following the death of the incumbent assemblyman Ishsam Shahruddin.
