TAPAH - Barisan Nasional (BN) has secured a decisive victory in the Ayer Kuning by-election, sparking celebrations at the BN command centre with Puteri Umno chief Datuk Nurul Amal Mohd Fauzi expressing her overwhelming joy and the renewed spirit this win brings to the party.
"Actually since morning till now haven’t eaten, but with this win, I am full," she said, highlighting the emotional significance of the victory.
"We will remember this. This win has lifted the spirits Umno members at the branch and division all level across all Parliaments. This will strengthen the rust in our leadership," she added.
The Ayer Kuning by-election saw a three-cornered contest between BN’s Dr Mohamad Yusri Bakir, Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Abd Muhaimin Malek, and Parti Sosialis Malaysia’s (PSM) Bawani KS. The by-election was triggered following the passing of incumbent assemblyman Datuk Ishsam Shahruddin on February 22 due to a heart attack.
Datuk Ishsam had previously won the seat in the 15th General Election (GE15) in 2022, securing 9,088 votes (38.73 per cent) and defeating candidates from Pakatan Harapan (PH), PN, PSM, and Pejuang. His victory in 2022 was achieved with a majority of 2,213 votes, amidst a voter turnout of 74.85 per cent from 31,940 registered electors.
For today's by-election, a total of 31,897 voters were registered to cast their ballots across 19 polling centres, with 63 polling channels.
